The South African Police Service (SAPS) has begun the process of recruiting patriotic citizens who are willing to protect the country and proud to serve it by pursuing a career as entry Police Trainees for enlistment in the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP).

Applying for the Position of Police Trainee
Compensation during the INSTITUTION PHASE
(PRIMARY EDUCATION CONDUCTED AT THE ACADEMIES)
The allowance is R4500 per month.

Appointees will also start receiving applicable service benefits from the beginning of the probation phase of their employment.
The Act of Appointment is the South African Police Service Act of 1995 (Act No. 68 of 1995).
Candidates who are selected will be hired on a temporary basis to serve as Police Trainees.
Core Functions Once the required training has been successfully completed, the following core functions will be assigned to each post:
- Prevent, combat, and investigate criminal activity;
- Uphold and enforce the law;
- Maintain public order;
- Protect and secure the people living in the Republic and their property;
- Prevent, combat, and investigate criminal activity.
(BASIC POLICE DEVELOPMENT LEARNING PROGRAMME) BASIC POLICE DEVELOPMENT LEARNING PROGRAMME
Applicants who are successful in the selection process will be required to take part in a Basic Police Development Learning Programme (from here on out referred to simply as the PROGRAMME) for a duration of twenty one months.
The PROGRAMME will be broken up into three distinct phases:
THE STAGE OF TRAINING
MATRICULANTS AND GRADUATES WHO HAVE COMPLETED STUDIES IN ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZATIONS
Induction Phase: One (1) Month Spent at a Designated Police Station; Monthly Stipend: R4,500.00
The duration of the Basic Training Phase is eight (8) months.
Training at a designated SAPS Academy for new recruits, with a monthly stipend of R4,500.00
GRADUATES OF THE JUSTICE SYSTEM
Induction Phase: One (1) Month Spent at a Designated Police Station; Monthly Stipend: R4,500.00
The duration of the Basic Training Phase is six (6) months.
Training at a designated SAPS Academy for new recruits, with a monthly stipend of R4,500.00
Following the successful completion of the Induction and Basic Training Phases, the police trainee will be appointed as a member of the Service undergoing the Workplace Exposure Programme for a period of twelve months.
This phase is known as the Probation Phase.

During the phase of the PROGRAMME known as Basic Training, the Service is required to supply the police trainee with free training gear, as well as meals and a place to stay.
In addition, participants will be eligible for medical aid benefits throughout the entirety of the 21-month Basic Training Learning Program.
Programme. Trainees who finish the Basic Training Learning Programme with a passing grade will be considered for permanent appointment as members of the South African Police Service at the rank of Constable if they meet the requirements.
Placement:
After completing the Institution Phase, successful candidates will receive training at any SAPS Academy located in South Africa, and then they will be assigned to any police station or unit located in South Africa.
REQUIREMENTS
APPLICANTS ARE REQUIRED TO:
Have documentary proof that they have permanent residence in the Republic of South Africa; this is a requirement.
Be in possession of a certificate demonstrating completion of the 12th grade or an equivalent qualification, for which documentary proof must be provided;
An active driver’s license that allows the holder to operate at least a light motor vehicle is an advantage;
Possess a strong command of at least two of the official languages: English and one other language;
Be at least eighteen (18) years old and not more than thirty-five (35) years old, with documentary proof of your age being required;
Have a clean criminal record, be willing to have his or her fingerprints taken, and cooperate with any investigations into their background that may be conducted.
Not have any tattoos or body markings that can be seen while wearing any uniform issued by the service;
Be ready to take the oath of office when the time comes;
And must be found to be physically and mentally fit for appointment in the post for which he or she applies;
Participate in and achieve a passing score on a psychological examination to be conducted in accordance with the directives of the National Commissioner, as well as being found to conform to the characteristics of a police official;
Be ready to successfully complete any training that may be required, as determined by the National Commissioner;
Be ready to perform your duty wherever it is needed within the borders of the Republic of South Africa.
THE PROCESS OF SELECTION:
During the process of recruitment, selection, and enlistment, each applicant will be interviewed and will be put through a series of tests that measure their fitness, psychometric ability, and integrity.
They will also undergo a medical evaluation. In addition to this, the South African Police Service (SAPS) will check each applicant’s qualifications, citizenship, drivers’ license (if necessary), and residential address.
In order to determine whether or not candidates have been involved in illegal activity in the past or whether or not such activity is currently pending against candidates, applicants will be put through a screening process that will include security screening, reference checking, and fingerprint verification.
Applicants who have previously worked for a government department but were fired for insubordination will be disqualified from consideration for employment in the South African Police Service(SAPS).
Applicants must be in good physical condition in order to participate in the Basic Police Development Learning Programme with debilitating conditions, physical impairments, or any other health issue that could potentially result in anyone who interrupts the training program runs the risk of being disqualified from further participation in the program.
In the event that applicants conceal any preexisting medical conditions, they risk being disqualified from the competition program pertaining to the determining of the same.

The Z83 that had been used up until this point will not be accepted anymore.
It is imperative that each and every one of the instructions listed on the application form be carefully followed;
failing to do so may result in the application being declined. Applications need to be hand-delivered to the local police stations in a timely manner and during regular business hours. Information regarding how to get in touch with the relevant provinces will be made available on the website.
Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted or considered.
You must affix copies of the following documents, which must not be certified, to your application form:

Applicants are required to go through a medical examination and do well on it (Body Mass Index of less than 30 and a waist circumference of less than 102 centimeters for men and less than 88 centimeters for women).
It is reasonable to assume that a personal interview will take place with a candidate if he or she is selected for further consideration.
The Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Amendment Act, Act 37 of 2013, mandates that as of the 31st of January 2015, all new appointments in the South African Police Service must provide a buccal (inside cheek) sample in order for their forensic DNA profile to be determined. This mandate was passed in 2013. The elimination index of the National Forensic DNA Database is where the forensic DNA profile that was derived from the sample will be loaded after it is processed.
Applicants should be aware that Section 8 of the Public Administration Management Act of 2014 and the Public Service Regulations, 2016 prohibit employees from doing business with the state. If an applicant has a company that does business with the state, they are required to deregister the company from the Central Supplier Database (CSD) of State organs or relinquish the Directorship from the said business, either prior to enlistment as an entry level Police Trainee, or within a certain amount of time after beginning their employment with the state. In the event that compliance is not maintained, the Memorandum of Agreement that was established with the South African Police Service will be dissolved.
Applicants should take note that remunerative work is prohibited in the South African Police Service in accordance with Chapter 4 of National Instruction 18 of 2019: Integrity Management. Examples of such industries include the taxi industry, the liquor industry, and the security industry, among others. Applicants who are working other jobs that pay them outside of the public service will be required to apply for authorization within the first month of entering into the Memorandum of Agreement. Failure to adhere to the National Instruction mentioned above may result in the termination of the Memorandum of Agreement that was entered into with the South African Police Service.
If an applicant has not been contacted within three months of the closing date of this advertisement, it should be assumed that the applicant was unsuccessful in his or her application.
The deadline for applications is August 31, 2023. Applicants accept that there is a limited number of posts available and that being subjected to the selection processes is not a guarantee for appointment.
