3 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT GOGO MAWENI.

Following her arrest and court appearance on accusations of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily injury, traditional healer Makhotso Lee-Anne Mofokeng, also known as Gogo Maweni, became well-known this week.

The healer, who has previously made headlines for accusations of practicing witchcraft, her reality show, and her ongoing dispute with another traditional healer, Gogo Skhotheni, appeared composed and at ease before the Protea magistrate’s court on Monday.

These five facts about Gogo Maweni, who rose to fame thanks to her reality show iZangoma Zoduma, are important to know.

  1. The “pregnancy with twins” of Maweni
During her court appearance, Maweni’s attorney stated that she was pregnant with twins and that she was the mother of four children, ages twelve, eight, seven, and six.

However, there is little information available regarding her pregnancies and offspring. After experiencing miscarriages, she revealed to TshisaLIVE in May of last year that she was using IVF to conceive her fourth child. She also shared the news of her pregnancy on Instagram, but it was later taken down.

In August 2023, Maweni revealed she was expecting twins, also conceived through IVF, in a podcast hosted by DJ Sbu.

“[We] went to a [gynecologist] and I said please refer us for an IVF and we did that and we are here now,” she said, referring to herself and her husband, Sabelo Mgube. Although it’s not inexpensive, it’s worthwhile.

2. She is the target of alleged murder charges
Following her detention, a purported police report about her arrest by the SAPS cold case squad began making the rounds on social media. According to the study, Maweni was also suspected in five murders that occurred in Johannesburg between 2020 and 2024.

Lt-Col Mavela Masondo, a police spokesperson, stated that Maweni was not yet connected to the killings.

We are unable to discuss the murder charges since they cannot be connected to her. Despite such information, she has not been charged. Only when we are certain that someone is involved can we declare them a suspect. She has not yet been connected to those cases, which are still being investigated. We will release a statement as soon as she gets connected.

3. Disagreement with Gogo Skhotheni, the well-known sangoma
For almost a year, Gogo Maweni and Gogo Skhotheni, a fellow traditional healer whose real name is Patricia Motsoeneng, have been publicly at odds, insulting one another on social media.

Arguments concerning who should own their enterprises, accusations regarding their husbands’ sexual orientation, and wearing counterfeit goods were the topics of the back-and-forth arguments.

After interacting offline, the two declared a truce in a live TikTok video this month.

“The lesson here is to call me if you have a problem. I’ll give you a call if I have a problem. I am glad we were able to discuss and settle the matter as adults, even though it didn’t have to go as far as it did. I’m sorry, I realize my mistakes,” Maweni stated.
