Burkina Faso unveiled its first entirely domestic electric vehicle (EV) as the race for EVs intensifies throughout Africa.
According to the automaker, the EV brand (ITAOUA) can travel 330 kilometers after just 30 minutes of charging.
A Burkinabe entrepreneur’s ambition to turn his nation into a technical center led to the construction of the industrial facility, which is situated in Ouaga 2000, one of the most desirable areas in the West African nation.
Design and manufacture are overseen by Burkinabe engineers.
The ITAOUA EV’s launch coincides with analysts’ predictions of significant growth in the African EV sector.
According to research firm Mordor Intelligence, the market for electric vehicles in Africa is expanding. It was estimated to be worth $11.94 billion in 2021 and is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 10.2% over the projection period, reaching $21.39 billion by 2027.
According to the automaker, Burkina Faso “has just proven that innovation is not the preserve of great powers, but that it can also germinate, grow, and radiate from the heart of Sahel in Africa.”
