Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE
Execute and implement market leading contracts, which will safeguard the company.
Create and adapt customer and supplier contracts in a timely manner.
Provide governance around complex legal issues. 

ROLE REQUIREMENT

Assume responsibility for the following:

Key Performance Indicators: Core, essential responsibilities / outputs of the position (KPI’s)The Junior Legal Advisor: Commercial Legal will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:

  • Attending to required legal due diligences, contract storing and management.
  • Assisting the Ehod to review, draft and negotiate legal aspects of commercial arrangements concluded by the company.
  • Manage and provide legal advice and opinions.
  • Manage and participate in various projects and initiatives undertaken by different departments, including liaison with other stakeholders.
  • Draft and update contract templates in line with the best practices as suggested by Head of Legal.
  • Provide support, guidance and advice to stakeholders, where requested.
  • or required, regarding legal aspects of transactions, legal risks and other legal matters relating to technology services.
  • Manage legal relationships with suppliers.
  • Effective negotiation, drafting and reviewing of quality contracts with Executive Head of Legal’s input for complex matters.
  • Attend to all legal queries from various departments.
  • Liaise with, and collate feedback from, various internal stakeholders and departments for purposes of transactions, initiatives and projects.
  • Ensure that input of relevant internal stakeholders and
  • departments are addressed and reflected in transaction documents and in policies and procedures.
  • Advise management and stakeholders on new legislation and the impact thereof on the business.
  • Monitor and keep abreast of legal and industry developments and update the Universe of Laws.
  • Liaise with, and manage, external law firms if required for special legal advice.
  • Ensure all agreements, letters of intent and contracts comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Assist in selection and evaluation of contractors and tendering processes.
  • Identify possible risks and manage the implementation of mitigating strategies.
  • Participate and contribute to RFPs, RFQs and procurement activities and evaluate responses from Vendors/Clients.
  • Ensure all vendor/client responses and details are captured in the transaction documents, once the vendor has been selected.
  • Ensure you to save all signed contracts and legal letters on the legal folder.
  • Track and enforce key contract terms.
  • Manage non-adherence to contractual commitments and discuss the matters with the Executive Head of Legal.

  • Ensuring that the Universe of Laws are up to date.

The company’s Commercial Legal function must therefore ensure the successful delivery in context of:

  • Rapidly changing technology environment.
  • The geographic complexity of the company’s future footprint across Africa and the Middle East.
  • Achievement of top operating efficiency and effectiveness through scale and common contract structure and processes.
  • Driving growth through business intelligence software and standardization to maximise legal’s impact on business.
  • Management of customer and supplier expectations in contract negotiations with Executive Head of Legal.
  • Enhancing the Company’s position as a leading provider in technology during contract negotiations; and
  • Managing dynamics and local challenges in the economic, regulatory and legal environments.

  • Able to build strong interpersonal relationships with peers, brand leaders, and other senior management throughout the company
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of the technology industry

TECHNICAL / PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • Motivated to keep up to date with changes in legislation and understand the impact on the business.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • A Qualified Attorney with completed articles.
  • Admitted attorney preferred.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in a commercial legal environment and exposure to IT and Telco business
