Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Johannesburg has an opening for a security guard to Render a security service in accordance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001 as amended for the Dis-Chem Group that meets Dis-Chem’ security requirements to protect assets, property, and staff by creating a safe and secure environment, by identifying signs of criminal activity or disorder and investigating disturbances while adhering to legislation re: the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001 as amended.
Minimum Requirement
Grade 12 – Matric or Senior Certificate
Grade C PSIRA accreditation
A minimum of three years’ experience in the retail industry, including shopping malls and warehouses.
Advantageous:
At least one year of experience in a similar position.
Job Description
Maintain vigilance and situational awareness in order to identify suspicious activities, apprehend criminals, and remove violators in accordance with the legal authority invested in the industry and Dis-Chem standard operating procedures for the specific post.
Routinely random patrols of the premises to ensure optimal visibility and reduce risks.
Monitor and control access to the premises by documenting and regulating vehicular and pedestrian access points to ensure that only authorized individuals are permitted entry.
Investigate and report signs of damage or unlawful entry to management as they occur, and act accordingly to protect Dis-Chem assets.
As a deterrent to discourage criminal activity, prevent theft, – damage, – personal injury, and other dishonorable acts, be as visible as possible.
When greeting guests, customers, and employees, you should be professionally courteous and cordial, approachable, and willing to assist others.
Access control – searching of employees, vendors, and merchandisers.
Maintain and complete all relevant registers and logs.
Cancel personnel purchasers and declared goods.
Supervise and verify refuse collection in accordance with Dis-Chem standards
Protect the company’s property and assets from all dishonest individuals, actions, and malicious behavior that could result in financial loss.
Always be present at your post while on duty.
Maintain excellent customer service relations with all internal and external Dis-Chem clients.
Report any unusual or suspicious behavior by employees, clients, or vendors.
To be present, observant, and vigilant during the opening and closing procedures of the site.
Each evening, ensure that all doors and windows are locked.
Ensure that all water faucets are turned off when required.
Perform continuous personnel searches and pat-downs on a daily basis.
Perform complete and thorough vehicle searches throughout the day.
Report all suspicious incidents verbally to management and submit a detailed written report as soon as it is practical to do so.
Contact law enforcement and emergency personnel and provide written or verbal reports to law enforcement officers as required by law and in accordance with Dis-Chem procedures.
When problem situations or crises arise or have been resolved, continue to observe the surrounding environment and report to management any findings or changes that worsen the situation.
After a crisis, provide management, the police, or the appropriate authorities (such as the fire department in the case of a fire outbreak) with a comprehensive written report of the incident and your actions surrounding it.
Monitor the alarm systems and/or surveillance cameras, and operate the necessary detection and emergency equipment.
When working at night or alone e.g. after hours, maintain continuous surveillance of the premises by patrolling the grounds and using closed-circuit camera monitoring or alarm systems to detect and investigate suspicious activities to ensure that only authorized entrance is maintained.
In emergency situations, offer assistance and activate emergency teams, such as alerting first responders, clinic sisters, and managers, among others.
Maintain order during evacuation procedures and at assembly points by issuing precise instructions or taking decisive action to ensure the safety of lives and property by preventing stampedes, lawlessness, and unauthorized entry into the premises.
To ensure that all security and safety precautions are observed, provide ongoing security advice and safety warnings and suggestions.
Be vigilant – be on the lookout for any suspicious activities that could indicate a breach of the site’s security measures.
Interpret information quickly and act accordingly.
Respond promptly and accurately during a crisis; avoid being caught off guard by remaining vigilant.
Standard operating procedures for the industry and Dis-Chem must be followed when responding to various hazardous situations.
In extremely dangerous situations (such as armed robbery attacks or assaults with deadly weapons), call the police immediately to prevent loss of life or property.
Record unusual occurrences and daily activities with precision.
Implement rules and regulations to prevent criminal behavior before it occurs.
Perform special duties, including receiving phone calls, responding to text messages and emails, and running essential errands for the department in accordance with Dis-Chem and industry standards.
Competencies
Special conditions of employment:
- PSIRA registered.
- Grade C PSIRA accreditation.
- South African
- MIE, clear criminal and credit.
- Driver’s license & own reliable transport with PDP when employed as a driver.
Special employment conditions:
PSIRA registered.
PSIRA accreditation of grade C.
South African MIE, no criminal record, and good credit.
When employed as a driver, a valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and a PDP are required.
