We’re seeking a Senior Cabling Technician (ISP) to install and maintain fibre node rooms across Cape Town, ensuring fast, stable internet for our customers. In this role, you’ll also assist with wireless equipment installations, directly contributing to seamless connectivity and exceptional network performance.

Duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of node rooms to ensure optimal performance.
  • Node room maintenance, complete the maintenance based on site inspections carried out.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all cabling, routers, switches, cabinets, backup power systems, fire suppression, and air conditioning.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in existing installations and infrastructure.
  • Inspect cabinets in MMR/node rooms, including cabling, routers, switches, UPS, etc.
  • Label and document network equipment accurately.
  • Perform crimping of Cat5/Cat6 cabling.
  • Report any faults or issues in the MMR/Node Rooms to the line manager.
  • Install new commercial Cat5/Cat6 cabling and ensure high-quality cable installations.
  • Install routers, switches, and wireless radios to specification.
  • Document all work completed in line with relevant reporting guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Matric
  • Electrical qualification advantageous
  • FTTH training and certifications advantageous

Experience and knowledge

  • Proven experience in a similar role.
  • Installation of CAT5, CAT6, and fibre.
  • Cable crimping to industry standards.
  • Maintenance of server and node rooms.
  • Fault finding using OTDR, CAT5/6 testers, and fibre laser tools.
  • Experience with fibre modules and light sources.
  • Installation and alignment of wireless dishes.
  • Basic inspection of masts and brackets.
  • Understanding of FNO & ISP SLAs for residential and commercial networks.
  • Knowledge of telecom procurement processes and supplier management.

We offer Barista produced coffee available all day to all our staff at Claremont.

Normal working hours are Mondays to Fridays from 08h00 until 17h00 with a 45-minute lunch break. The company allows employees, by approval of the direct manager, to work flexi-time between 07h00 and 18h00.

Due to the nature of the position, you will be required to be on call on a rotational basis.

With centrally located and modern offices just across from Cavendish in Claremont, we are offering a salary from R 17 000 cost to the company. The amount offered will be dependent on qualifications, experience, and other market-related factors.
