Description of the Job
In order to assist with ecological data collection, monitoring, infrastructure maintenance, law enforcement, and tourism management at the Gamkaberg World Heritage Site and Nature Reserve, CapeNature is looking to appoint two individuals who are dynamic and innovative.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Eco-Matrix and Integrated Catchment Management should be implemented accordingly.
Help with the collection of ecological data and monitoring of the environment
Assist in the management of invasive alien plant species
Contribute to the operations of controlling fires
Help with environmental education Help with the upkeep of all infrastructure Help with environmental education
Duties Comprised of Supervision and Administration
Lead and oversee EPWP teams.
Putting into action the annual plan of operations
In order to ensure the efficient management of protected areas, support management.
Perform the necessary administrative tasks on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Provide assistance with the management and control of assets
Legal Compliance, Quality Assurance, and Occupational Health and Safety
Carry out patrols in accordance with the law.
During law enforcement operations, provide assistance to the Conservation Services.
Involve yourself in the search and rescue operations.
Policies and guidelines pertaining to occupational health and safety should be implemented.
Perform the duties of an Environmental Control Officer.
Organizational Structures and Machines
The infrastructure should be maintained and minor repairs should be carried out.
Provide assistance with the upkeep and administration of the facilities.
Take care of the vehicles and the equipment.
Personnel and equipment transportation
Care for Customers
Assist with activities related to tourism
Visitors should be provided with information as well as interpretation.
Apply the fundamentals of first aid.
MOST IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS:
Matric
A minimum of two years of experience in a job-related field
A driver’s license that is still valid, along with the ability to drive a four-wheel-drive vehicle and previous experience
Knowledge of computers (including Microsoft Word, Excel, and QGIS)
Expertise and practical experience in the field of environmental governance and law enforcement
Competence and experience in the field of firefighting
Lacking a criminal history
Competencies and Abilities
Willingness to work shifts on the weekends and hours that are not regular
Field ranger duties require a certain level of physical ability.
Problem-solving abilities that are strong in terms of analysis, strategy, and creativity
Acquiring expertise and practical experience in the areas of working with tourists, maintaining infrastructure, and law enforcement
Capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while simultaneously managing multiple projects and meeting stringent expectations
A strong ability to plan and organize projects, the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team, computer literacy and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to use QGIS software
A suggestion is that:
The possession of a current Peace Officer’s certificate, an Electronic Monitoring (EMI) certification, or some other form of administrative experience
Diploma in Nature Conservation at the National Level
